The velocity variability is shown in terms of the principal standard deviation ellipses for the drifters, the 0.28° and 0.1° models. A significant increase in variability across the domain is observed in the higher resolution case when compared with the 0.28° run. Particularly noticeable is the increased reproduction of the variability in the vicinity of the AC (around 35°N) offshore from the Mediterranean Sea, and in the GS.	Enlarge
