Time evolution during a three-month period when two WCRs were shed from the Gulf Stream. Note:

  • The downstream loop folds back to the west distorting the Gulf Stream path into an "S" shape.

  • Strong anticyclones form to the north and west of the upper-layer loop

  • The westward movement of both the anticyclone and cyclone as the WCRs pinch off
