Unlike the numerous studies conducted in the past with simpler models, our study used a state-of-the-art GCM configured to mimic the Kuroshio/Oyashio circulation system. The eddy was initialized by means of simple data assimilation scheme using observed satellite SLA. The initialized eddy captured the character of the observed eddies quite well.
