Barotropic and Baroclinic fields of anticyclonic eddy
generation in the Kuroshio Extension region

Two relatively strong anticyclonic eddies
merge and the thus-formed anticyclonic eddy detaches from Kuroshio due to baroclinicity.
Unlike the case of the eddy detachment west
of the Izu Ridge found in the eddy-Kuroshio interaction simulation, this eddy is detached
from the Kuroshio in a westward thrust that results from the phase difference of the
barotropic (color) and baroclinic (white) fields.
