The daily snapshots of the ASUKA velocity section reveal the velocity structures of the meanders as they develop, persist and decay. The largest meanders begin near days 110, 400, and 500.

Daily velocity sections between November of 1993 and May of 1995. Zero velocity is contoured as black lines. Additional contours (black lines) are drawn at a 0.5 m/s interval. Black areas indicate topography. The horizontal axis is distance from Cape Ashizuri along the ASUKA line. Each field was made by linear interpolation and extrapolation from seven or eight calculated velocity profiles. The white bar denotes the time of each section.
