The Hatteras to Nova Scotia region has been divided into 16 subregions within which time series of frontal length and other statistics will be generated. The intent was to segment the domain into subregions within which (we hope) the physical processes underlying front formation are approximately uniform. The regions were selected partly on the basis of the image showing the overall probability of detecting a front and partly based on bottom and coastline morphology (the 100, 200, and 2000 meter isobaths are shown in the probability figure).
