To better understand the interaction between the ocean and tropical cyclones using numerical simulation models
To assess the potential impact of climate change on the intensity and structure of tropical cyclones
To develop a coupled hurricane-ocean model capable of realistically simulating the hurricane-ocean interaction
To investigate the operational capability of coupled tropical cyclone-ocean models in predicting the ocean response and tropical cyclone movement and intensity
To establish operational coupled hurricane-ocean prediction systems for the Gulf of Mexico and western North Atlantic and for the western North Pacific and to assess their predictive skill
