Goals
- To better understand the interaction between the ocean and
tropical cyclones using numerical simulation models
- To assess the potential impact of climate change on the intensity
and structure of tropical cyclones
- To develop a coupled hurricane-ocean model capable of realistically
simulating the hurricane-ocean interaction
- To investigate the operational capability of coupled
tropical cyclone-ocean models in predicting the ocean response and
tropical cyclone movement and intensity
- To establish operational coupled hurricane-ocean prediction systems
for the Gulf of Mexico and western North Atlantic and for the western North
Pacific and to assess their predictive skill
